Random Paving

Random paving is ideal for garden paths and patios, and is the most economical choice for exterior paving.

It comes with a sawn or textured finish. It has random shapes, with natural edges and one or two sawn edges.

Depending on available stock, the thickness varies from 20mm to 50mm. We estimate youโ€™ll be able to achieve between 8m2 and 14m2 per tonne, depending on paving thickness and your layout.

Random Paving is sold per m2

Finishes (subject to availability)

Brushed

Our Brushed finish is applied to sawn stone. Brushing gently brings out the surface texture, softening the sawn stoneโ€™s flat surface. It also rubs up the stone, enhancing the appearance of its natural features. A Brushed finish can be used successfully externally, but its suitability depends on the application as it offers lower slip resistance than other more textured finishes. Purbeck stone is a limestone, which naturally weathers. Depending on its application and exposure, its surface appearance will change over time. Please contact us for samples, and further information.

Bush-Chiselled

Our Bush-Chiselled texture is a machine-finish applied to sawn stone, meaning that each piece has a flat surface with a subtle linear coarse texture. This texture provides a smart, matt appearance which also improves slip-resistance. It also makes some of the geological character of the stone, such as little fossilised shells, less obvious.

Hand-Tooled

Our Hand-Tooled texture is a premium finish applied to sawn or natural-face stone. It can be applied to architectural masonry, providing an elegant surface to lintels and ashlar, or a crisp finishing touch to jambs and quoins. It also makes a beautiful surface for paving, matching the way paviers were made historically and improving slip-resistance. Its matt appearance makes some of the geological character of the stone less obvious. Purbeck stone is a limestone, which naturally weathers. Depending on its application and exposure, its surface appearance will change over time. Please contact us for samples, and further information.

Sanded

Our Sanded finish is applied to sawn stone. Sanding is equivalent to 120grit. It rubs up the stone, enhancing the appearance of its natural features. Compared with the honed/220grit finish suitable for interiors, our Sanded finish gives a more subtle cloudy appearance. A Sanded finish can be used successfully externally, but its suitability depends on the application as it offers lower slip resistance than other more textured finishes. Purbeck stone is a limestone, which naturally weathers. Depending on its application and exposure, its surface appearance will change over time. Tumbled

Our Tumbled finish is applied after stone has been sawn or guillotined. Tumbling distresses and softens the edges and may leave some texturing to the surface, producing an antique effect.

The samples shown above have sanded surfaces, which give a flat matt surface. The sample to the left has been brushed, which enhances the stoneโ€™s colour and geological features.
