The Southsea Coastal Scheme, the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defences project, spans 4.5km and protects over 10,000 homes and 700 businesses from flooding for the next 100 years. The project addressed ageing sea defences dating back to the late 18th century, originally built with Purbeck limestone. To maintain historical continuity, Haysom Purbeck Stone supplied Purbeck limestone blocks, cast by Moore Concrete into pigmented concrete panels. Engineered for longevity, the stone will weather naturally alongside the original walls. This was Haysom’s largest contract to date, completed on time and now fully open to the public.
