Information

Pond Freestone is a plain, fine-grain limestone incorporating occasional interesting flint markings and patches. It presents a clean, uniform appearance with minimal natural variations across its smooth, consistent surface.

Pond Freestone (along with Spangle) is one of the two ‘Purbeck Portland’ beds we quarry, ie that are from the same geological horizon as the monolithic limestone quarried on the Isle of Portland, 10 miles away. Pond Freestone has a particularly high bed depth, and is harder and finer-grained than similar stone sourced from the Isle of Portland. It is prized for memorials, statuary and lettercutting, as well as for architectural masonry and landscaping.
