Wetson Bed is a buff-coloured limestone which features a dense mix of whole and fragmented shell pieces that create a richly- textured surface.
Like Purbeck Marble, Wetson Bed contains the Viviparus snail shell. Occasional darker accents add visual interest throughout the stone.
Wetson Bed and Thornback are quarried together. Like Thornback, Wetson Bed tends to be quite thin making it ideal for paving. Haysom Purbeck Stone recently produced Wetson Bed seats and paving for the West Front of Westminster Abbey.
