Grey Purbeck Marble

Grey Purbeck Marble is a richly fossiliferous limestone densely packed with small circular shells.. These create a lively, spotted pattern across the stone’s surface. The relatively consistent sizes and tones of the round fossil elements give it a harmonious textured appearance.

Purbeck Marble is one of the most famous stones in England, used since the medieval period for decorative and structural masonry and statuary within England’s medieval cathedrals, churches and historic buildings. Haysom Purbeck Stone is the only quarry with a stock of this stone.

We have provided Grey Purbeck Marble for conservation and restoration projects throughout the 20th Century, including most recently paving for the Consumer Association Building.
